Zoya Diva Collection - Swatches and Review!

To contact us Click HERE
I'm excited to share with you the Zoya *Diva Collection.  This collection is comprised of six metallic polishes but I sort of consider it two collections in one, as there are four jewel-toned shades and two that are unique unto themselves.  Let me get to the pics so you can see what I mean.
Two coats of each.  Elisa on thumb, Ray on index, Song on middle, Suri on ring. Shot indoors, with flash.
Outdoors, in sun.
Outdoors, in shade.
Like I said, these four metallics look jewel-toned to me.  Elisa is a lovely ruby red, Ray a deep emerald, Song a stunning sapphire and Suri a pretty amethyst.  They all applied like a dream with Zoya's usual great formula and each had a TON of shine.  I did not use either base or top coat in these pics, only two coats of color.  Just a bit of advice, use a base coat, at the very least, as Song did stain a tad after removal.  However, despite the staining, Song is my favorite of these four shades, not only because it's blue but it also had the most sparkle.
Now, as I mentioned, I consider the two remaining colors in this collection almost a mini collection of their own and hopefully the pics will help explain why.  Here they come:
Thumb: FeiFei (one coat), Index: Daul (one coat), Middle: FeiFei (two coats), Ring: Daul (two coats), Pinky: FeiFei (three coats).  Shot indoors, with flash.
Outdoors, in sun.
Outdoors, in shade.
After one coat, I kind of considered these "Glitter Jelly" polishes.  They had the sheer, buildable quality of a jelly but were chock full of super fine glitter.  However, after the second coat, at which time I achieved near opacity, I sort of threw out the "jelly" thoughts.  By the third coat, as seen on my pinky, I had complete opacity.  These beautiful shades are totally buildable and I suspect would be lovely over the more opaque metallics in the collection or even the creams in the Designer collection (hold your horses, lol, they'll be featured soon).  I don't own either Zoya Crystal or Zoya Faye but I'd almost say that these two are like their sheerer cousins.  They are gorgeous, applied with ease and dried quickly.  Love, love, love these!
As I said, I will be featuring the Zoya Designer collection soon.  In summary though, I think the highlights of the Diva collection, for me, are Song and the very unique FeiFei and Daul.
As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
xoxo,K

As promised, here is the lovely Zoya *Designer Collection featuring six cream shades perfect for the fall.  Feast your eyes:

As you've probably seen if you're a regular reader of this blog, I prefer to showcase new collections in skittle manis.  I have two reasons for this.  One, it allows me to get the colors swatched quicker for you and two, it gives you a chance to see each of the colors in comparison to the others in the collection with ease.  Of course, Zoya releases its collections in sets of either six or three polishes which is why I simply changed my thumb nail to make sure I got all six shades featured as quickly as possible.  But, I digress.  Each of these six colors featured the fabulous formula Zoya is famous for and applied with ease.  Each is a true cream, was completely opaque in two coats and dried with a ton of shine.  Rekha is a deep red, Evvie, a dark olive, Natty, a rich slate blue, Monica, a luscious creamy purple, Toni, a dark wine and Noot, a dark grey with a hint of green.  I was very impressed with the depth of these colors and, of course, the super shine.  Quelle surprise, my favorite is Natty (once a blue girl, always a blue girl) but I'm also quite fond of Monica.  Overall, another winning collection for Zoya.
As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts.  Thanks so much for reading and commenting, it is always SO appreciated!

Barielle Summer Fun Collection - Swatches and Review

Today I'd like to share Barielle's *Summer Fun Collection. It is comprised of five cream shades just perfect for the dog days of summer. Please enjoy some pics:
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Berry Go Round, Mint Ice Cream Cone, Ocean Breeze, Pink Flip-Flops and Peach Popsicle, shot indoors.
From thumb to pinky, two coats each of Berry Go Round, Mint Ice Cream Cone, Ocean Breeze, Pink Flip-Flops and Peach Popsicle, shot outdoors.
I love this collection! Each shade had a great formula and was opaque in two coats.  Berry Go Round is one of the nicest corals I've seen in a while.  Mint Ice Cream Cone was a bit of a surprise as I did not expect such a light mint green to be opaque in two coats but it was, yay.  Ocean Breeze, unsurprisingly my favorite in the collection, is a great slightly smoky sky blue.  Pink Flip-Flops, a pale bubblegum pink, like Mint Ice Cream Cone, surprised me in a delightful way.  Last, but not least, the lovely Peach Popsicle is one of the rare peaches that I actually like on my cool skin tone.  Overall, this collection is a winner for me!
If you would like to purchase these shades, click HERE to visit Barielle's website.  It appears that they have changed the name of Peach Popsicle to Peach Pop so please be aware of that if you choose to look for it.
Stay tuned.  I will have another Barielle collection, Dazzling Diamonds, coming up very soon!

Review: Kiss My Face - Face Factor SPF 30 For Face & Neck

To contact us Click HERE
This summer I was looking or a good sunscreen (SPF30 or higher) that could double as a daytime moisturizer for my super-oily skin. As those with oily skin know, the less layers the better in summertime and, after extensive research, I decided to order this product from drugstore.com (apologies for the horrible photo of this tube, but the bright orange + teal freaked out my camera and made everything look blurry):

My full review, after the jump...
On paper, this looks like a dream product. Natural, hydrating ingredients, SPF30 and it "works great as a base under make-up."

Not only does this product have great reviews from users on retail sites, message boards, etc., but Paula Begoun also loves it (a huge plus for me personally). From her Beautypedia website:
Face Factor Face + Neck SPF 30 is a truly outstanding product in the Kiss My Face line! This in-part zinc oxide sunscreen for normal to dry skin contains a very good array of antioxidants, soothing agents, emollients, and the cell-communicating ingredients. Well done, and it’s fragrance-free, too! That is a great change of pace! This formula should be suitable for those struggling with dry skin and occasional breakouts; however, as with any skin-care product, it takes experimentation to discover what works best for you.
With all of these great things working in its favor, I chose to "ignore" the part about this being for "normal to dry skin". I figured, since KMF said this product works well as a base under makeup, maybe...just maybe...I could get it work for me. Worth a shot, right?

So here's the deal: this product is wonderful, but it's too heavy for me. My skin is just far too oily for this to function as a sunscreen + moisturizer in the summertime. I tested this product for six weeks and every time I used it, I waited a minimum of ten minutes to allow this product to sink into my skin before applying my makeup. No matter what I did, I just couldn't stop this product from making my makeup slide around my face after a few hours, and my face always had a lot of break-though shine an hour or two after makeup application. By the end of the day, I felt like my makeup was melting off my face.
You may be wondering why I started the above paragraph with "this product is wonderful". Well, that's because the one thing I absolutely, without a doubt, LOVE about this product is that it is extremely moisturizing. And when I say moisturizing, I don't just mean that my skin feels soft to the touch when I wear this product. I mean, my skin continues to feel smooth and hydrated, long after this product has faded away (or after I've cleansed my face). I love its hydrating properties so much that when my skin starts to feel a little parched (which it's prone to do when the season change) I find myself wearing this product at nighttime (which is a little weird considering it has SPF but I don't care!). If I apply it at night, my skin feels so hydrated in the morning--it's a like a great shot of moisturizer whenever I need it.
I've also found another use for this product since it didn't work for my face: I apply it to the tops of my hands when I know I'm going to be out in the sun for any period of time. If you're under 40, you probably don't have this concern (yet!) but as we age, the tops of our hands can start to look "mature". The best way to combat this is with a good sunscreen, and why not make it a hydrating one to boot? This stuff is perfect for that.
FINAL VERDICT: Too heavy for my oily skin, but I can completely understand why Paula Begoun and others gives this product rave reviews. It hydrates the skin beautifully, contains some great ingredients and it's also SPF30. If you have normal to dry skin, this might be an ideal sunscreen for you, or even a moisturizer/sunscreen hybrid. For my fellow oily-skinned readers out there, this might be worth a shot for cooler months (the weather here in San Diego is still pretty warm as of the time of this post, so I haven't had a chance to try it in cooler weather yet). I love it for the tops of my hands, which is a nice alternative if this doesn't work for your face.
You can find this product on the Kiss My Face website, drugstore.com, iherb.com, vitacost.com and other online retailers.
Do you own any Kiss My Face products? Have you tried this sunscreen? I'd love to hear from you!

Spotted: Two new Revlon Moon Candy shades

To contact us Click HERE
Thanks to reader @DawnBaierThiele for this sighting! Dawn spotted two new Revlon Moon Candy shades at her local CVS recently and was kind enough to share. These were spotted in a tall, black spinning display that also contained the original shades in the collection, according to Dawn:

More pics and info, after the jump...

Looking at the original display below (from my post back in July), there are a few similarities to existing shades,  but nothing that's spot-on identical:
image credit: Jamie for Nouveau Cheap Cosmic, Supernova, Milky Way, Moon Dust, Orbit, Universe, Satellite, Galactic
I think that the base color of Cosmic (which is one of the shades I swatched in my full review of these polishes here) looks similar to the base color of Meteor, but the green in Cosmic is more of an olive/army green whereas the green in Meteor is more of a forest green. And the base color of Eclipse is a deep plum, whereas the base color of Orbit is definitely dark purple.
Thanks so much, Dawn, for the great sighting and scoop!
Have you spotted these new Revlon Moon Candy shades in your area yet? Thoughts?

Spotted: Wet n Wild Limited Edition Sweeten the Season Collection

Wet n Wild Limited Edition Sweeten the Season Juicy Lip Balm Collection
(retail: $2.99 each)

This collection contains four different holiday-themed, limited edition flavors of Juicy Lip Balms (you can see my review of the permanent collection flavors here). I don't believe these holiday balms contain SPF15 like the permanent balms do, but I could be wrong.
image credit: Project Swatch for Nouveau CheapThe flavors are: candy cane, gingerbread, candy apple and vanilla
Emi also included some helpful pics of the balms themselves and there's something you need to watch out for before you make a purchase:

image credit: Project Swatch for Nouveau Cheap
image credit: Project Swatch for Nouveau Cheap
Obviously some of these balms have separated, so check your balms before you buy them. Looking at the rest of the balms in this collection, I have a feeling that the pigments used to color the candy-apple-flavored balm (green and red) may have caused an adherence issue, which could be why only the green and red colored balm seems to have this problem. This is just a theory, of course, but all of the other balms, which are a color + white, look fine to me, based on the photos above.
Have you spotted the Sweeten the Season collection in your area yet? Thoughts?
Thanks again, Emi, for the great pics and sighting info!

Why I don't blog about Rite Aid clearance sales

To contact us Click HERE
One of my best Rite Aid clearance sale hauls to date...
I just wanted to take a second to respond to comments and emails that I've received recently about the Rite Aid clearance sales that some of you have spotted at your local Rite Aid stores, and let you know why I don't do blog posts about those sales.
I've mentioned this in the past but, for newer readers, Rite Aid clearance sales vary from store to store. Historically, when the seasons change, certain Rite Aid locations will put just about every product in the "new product" area of the beauty department on 50% clearance. However, not all stores do this, and the inventory from store to store can also vary depending on what that particular store decides to put on clearance.
For example, at one Rite Aid location, you might be able to find the entire Maybelline Fashion Week Fall 2012 collection on 50% off clearance right now. But if you go to a store across town, these products might still be full price. Also, some stores will put 50% off clearance tags on their merchandise and leave those products in their original displays, while other stores will move all of their clearance merchandise to an end-cap or sale aisle somewhere else in the store (usually not in the beauty department).
And then there are some Rite Aid locations that might never put their seasonal/limited edition/new products on clearance. They might be there one day, and then the next day they'll be gone and in their place will be the new seasonal products.
Since things vary GREATLY from store to store, that's why I no longer do "heads-up" types of posts about Rite Aid clearance sales. In the past, I found that many readers went looking for clearance items and never found them, and I don't like to get peoples' hopes up like that, if I can help it. I do blog about my own personal Rite Aid clearance hauls though, because I do that as a way to help you take advantage of these types of deals WHEN you spot them (here's an example).
However: if you'd like to let us know about the products you've found on clearance at your local Rite Aid, I encourage you to leave a comment on the You Tell Me page. That way, it can give other readers at least some idea of what they MIGHT find on clearance at their locations!
Thanks so much for taking a moment to read this, and if you have any questions, let me know.
PS: I do blog about chain-wide clearance sales though. This occurs when a particular brand or line is being discontinued across the entire chain (like when Jane Cosmetics left Rite Aid, etc.). If/when that ever happens, I'll definitely post about it here.

Two Days At Premiere Orlando; Part 1

To contact us Click HERE
Gosh, I don't EVEN know where to start with reviewing this show! It was huge and overwhelming and fun because I had sister beauty bloggers with me.

To recap, the Premiere Orlando show is a three day event showcasing companies in the hair, skin and nail business. This show is for licensed professionals and is not open to the general public.

The first day of the show is competition day for hair and mostly nails. The next two days are time to visit with vendors, learn about their products, and learn new and exciting hair and nail trends. For beauty bloggers, we get to meet present and new vendor contacts, learn about products up and coming in the industry and then, share our findings with you, our faithful readers.

I had the opportunity to talk with some of the vendor public relations folks, and one of the top comments I heard was that there are many beauty bloggers that are not legit in sharing information about the industry but, are in it to get free stuff. However, those that are truly established and show respect for companies, those bloggers are embraced and beauty companies love working with us.

That said, let me show you some highlights that I caught...
The first day I attended, I went with Brittany from Clumps of Mascara (we remembered our 1st anniversary meeting each other at the show last year at the Nubar booth), Phyrra from Phyrra.net, Cristina from Let Them Have Polish  and then me, toting around 5 liter bottles of Zoya's Remove+...all day (I purchased these, not freebies, folks!).

I didn't get a photo of us together (shame on me!), however, on the second day I palled around with Kari from Once Bitten Blog, and Maria, creator and owner of Cult Nails.

Michael O'Rourke was a star stylist at this show. He, and two of his master hair stylists, cut hair, non-stop, for 2 long days! On the first day, one of his assistants stopped us and asked Phyrra and Cristina if they would like to be models and get a haircut as a demo. We all looked at each other, and quickly, the girls said 'hell, yea!'

It is admirable that both Phyrra and Cristina were totally open to whatever hair style they got...
Cristina was super excited to get her hair cut. LOL! And she had just had a new style cut 2 weeks prior.
Phyrra is on the left and she waited a long time, both on stage and off, for her finished work.
Phyrra and Cristina eagerly await their turns.
Michael O'Rourke worked his awesome magic with Phyrra's style.
And the entire time, he is explaining how and why he is cutting a particular way.
This is the finished look Phyrra got...Her very trendy pixie cut.
Cristina adored her new style as well... I was so inspired by the stylists' work and the joy Phyrra and Cristina got with her new styles I could have gotten up there and let them cut my hair short! But, I didn't. I'm pretty attached to my long hair!!
On the second day, Maria was asked to be a demo model. She was ready too. She had heard all about the awesome haircuts her friends got the day before. Now she was going to get a chance... And with just a few final touches, she was in love with her new faux-hawk!
We all purchased some of the 'Rock Your Hair' products. I'll showcase mine in another post.
With all the hair styles and new cuts, I saw this young lady with the hair style I want. I asked her if I could take her photo so I could take it to my hair stylist and she happily agreed...
And what would a hair and nail show be without outrageous nails...These were even set up to have flashing lights on the 'mini' stages!
In the next post, I'll show you miles of nail polishes.

Facial Wipe Wednesday: Pond's Morning Refresh Cleansing Towelettes

To contact us Click HERE
Today's Facial Wipe Wednesday review is on Pond's Wet Cleansing Towelettes. Actually, this was the first facial wipe I purchased to start off on my Facial Wipe Wednesday series. And, it is the perfect facial wipe for anyone to start with...
Pond's has a variety of Facial Wipes to pick from. I chose this one, 'Morning Refresh' because I thought the fragrance, Citrus and Cucumber, sounded just like it said: 'Morning Refresh'.
Pond's has been around, probably, before I was born! They are iconic in my mind for washing the face. And, happily, they haven't slacked off. These wipes are hypoallergenic, which means, that they do not contain ingredients known to cause irritations.

When I opened these towelettes to photograph them before using, I got a surprise...
Are these speckled? Is it a fancy design? Well, it did get me to say 'Hmm...cool!'
Here, you can see that the dots are actually raised on the tissue. They help exfoliate the skin while you cleanse. The yellow dots are not rough or hard. They are there for a texture to stimulate the sloughing off of the dead skin. I found it sort of neat and it didn't bother my skin at all.

I found Pond's to remove my makeup just fine. However, there is nowhere on this package that states it will or is used to remove makeup. It does say that it is infused with a citrus and cucumber scent. That was very pleasant and not an over-powering fragrance at all.

I don't use facial cloths in the morning, but I still found these towelettes left my face feeling freshly clean and soft. I didn't feel the need to rinse my face after using them and I didn't need to use a moisturizer immediately after using.

Although, I won't recommend these for removing makeup for everyone, I discovered it did a pretty good job of it. I would recommend it for cleansing when you don't necessarily need a makeup remover but, just want to wash your skin. Pond's facial towelettes can be found at Walmart, drugstores and Ulta.
